The Inspectorate of Government (IG) is carrying out stakeholder engagements with civil servants and communities in Gulu, Omoro and Nwoya district to create awareness on the need for collaboration in the fight against corruption.
A team of the IG staff were in Gulu district yesterday from where they engaged with staff and political leaders at the district council hall and later at Paicho Sub County Headquarters.
Christine Lamwaka, the Assistant Director for Advocacy and Capacity Building at the IG says the Inspectorate of Government is currently understaffed to fight corruption alone.
Lamwaka says the inspectorate currently has about 500 staff across the country while Acholi sub region has only six staff overseeing eight districts and one city.
During the engagement at Gulu district, issues such as salary disparities, delay in handling complaints, late release of government funds and non-facilitation of technical staff to oversee Parish Development Model (PDM) among others were raised.
Lamwaka says some of the issues will be forwarded to the Equal Opportunities Commission for handling while the IG will handle those under their jurisdiction.
