Pastor launches piggery project to church members in bid to fight poverty

The founder of True Gospel Church Outreach Laroo, Pastor Francis Ojara Umaoo, has launched a piggery project aimed at empowering about 300 church members to overcome poverty.

The initiative was unveiled during celebrations marking his 26th year of ministry at True Gospel Church Outreach in Gulu.

Speaking during an interview, Pastor Umaoo said the idea was inspired by the hardships he witnessed among his congregation.

He says this will make members focus more on God rather than thinking of their constant daily struggles.

He adds that the church has started with eight pigs. Once they reproduce, the piglets will be distributed to members to rear at their individual homes as their own.

The goal is to create household income streams and reduce poverty levels within the congregation.

Esther Apiyo, a member of the church, welcomes the project, saying it will also reduce domestic violence.

She urges beneficiaries to take good care of the pigs so they multiply and improve their family finances.

Collins Opiyo, one of the pastors at True Gospel Church Outreach, says the project will help Christian’s shift focus from their problems to their faith.

He advises members to be faithful stewards the project once they receive the pigs as this will support their families in many ways and even pay school fees for their children.

Bishop Francis Ojara Umaoo marked 26 years of serving God during the same event and revealed that the ministry now has five branches.
