Disturbing reports indicate that some beneficiaries of the government cattle restocking program are diverting the funds to unintended activities.
Out of the 640 households earmarked for restocking in the current phase, 581 have received five million shillings each, according to Peter Banya, the Resident City Commissioner in charge of Laroo-Pece division.
Banya says they have received reports indicating some people are using the money for buying land and other items.
He explains that the cattle restocking funds have a specific goal and objective of restocking animals lost in Acholi sub region during prolonged years of insurgency.
Banya says his office will soon carry out an inspection of households to ensure that they purchased the cattle.
Each household is expected to use the funds for purchasing two bulls and three heifers.
Banya says those who have misused the money will be required to record statements with police.
Government has allocated 80 billion shillings for restocking cattle in the Acholi, Lango, and Teso sub-regions in order to replace livestock lost during past conflicts.
