Gulu RCC Cautions Leaders on Politicizing Restocking Program

Peter Banya, the current acting Resident City Commissioner for Gulu City has warned politicians on seeking cheap popularity on the issue of restocking.

This comes after on Tuesday last week, Gilbert Olanya, the Kilak South MP and Ballingtone Olweny P’Ongwech, the Male Councillor V representing the people of Bungatira Sub County in Gulu district went with 11 victims to police and reported Gulu City at Gulu Central Police station.

They wrote statements pointing out that Gulu City should pay over 200 million shillings to 10,000 people who were conned of 20,000 shillings each to acquire or lay their hands on the restocking forms which was later declared irrelevant.

Banya says no leader from Gulu City has stolen any money for restocking and they are not aware of any one who reported them to police.

He says they consider that act by the politicians as looking for cheap popularity.

Banya says a new guideline has been issued and the verification process will be done in the community together with the crowds which makes it impossible for Gulu City to steal any money.

According to Banya, politicians should wait and shout when people don’t receive their money rather than taking advantage of every situation they come across.

He insists that this is a five year program and therefore people should not rush because others will benefit in the next phases.
