Illegal Business Structures Emerge After Demolition of Kiosks in Gulu City

Several illegal structures meant for business have replaced kiosks and containers recently demolished during the trade order implementation in Gulu city.

Peter Banya, the Gulu Resident City Commissioner in charge Laroo-Pece Division says anyone constructing without a license is wasting their resources.

Banya says that all the structures constructed without the approval of the city planning department will soon be demolished in the second phase of the trade order.

According to the Buildings Control Act, a person must obtain a building permit from the local building committee before starting any building operation.

An Illegal construction attracts harsh fines of 40,000 shillings per square meter of a built-up area, according to the Act.
